Sea Pork

This is a tunicate. These can be pink, gray like this one, or once, I swear, I found one that was yellow. This is actually a cluster of animals that lives attached to the bottom somewhere, perhaps on rocks. The little animals are clustered together, and have one main communal "mouth" that sucks in water that has decaying plant matter in it that they can eat. All the little animals work together to set up the suction that accomplishes this.

They can be quite small to large clumps of over ten pounds or so. In the spring, they produce their young in form of free swimming larvae that look like tiny tadpoles. Sharks, skates and other bottom fish like to eat them.
